Subaru Outback Sport XT 2025 Subaru Outback Sport XT 2025 Subaru U.S. Media Center

The 2025 Subaru Outback Sport XT redefines capability in the midsize SUV segment. It blends ruggedness with refinement, offering buyers a turbocharged engine option that enhances both performance and versatility. This article presents a comprehensive overview of its features, pricing, and specifications across key English-speaking regions: the UK, USA, and Australia.

Table of contents:

UK and Europe pricing and offerings

In the UK, the 2025 Subaru Outback starts at a recommended retail price between £40,495 and £46,145, with typical savings of around £1,780. The Sport XT variant sits above the base and Limited trims in the lineup. Standard equipment includes full-time Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, EyeSight driver-assist technology, and an 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its elevated ride height and rugged cladding highlight its readiness for mixed terrain.

USA - trim levels and powertrain options

In the United States, the 2025 Outback offers two main engine choices:

  • A naturally aspirated 2.5-liter Boxer engine delivering around 182 hp
  • A turbocharged 2.4-liter Boxer engine producing 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque

All XT variants, including Sport XT, Limited XT, Touring XT, and Onyx Edition XT, are equipped with the 2.4-liter turbo engine. Base versions such as the Sport, Touring, and Wilderness continue to use the non-turbo 2.5-liter unit.

Ground clearance is generous throughout the lineup, with standard trims offering about 8.7 inches and Wilderness trims reaching approximately 9.5 inches.

Pricing starts around $29,995 for entry models. The Limited XT is priced near $44,226 MSRP, though local deals in Frederick, MD reduce that to around $41,572.

Australia - Sport XT and Touring XT comparisons

As of late 2024, Australian pricing for all-wheel-drive models is as follows:

ModelPrice (AUD)
AWD Sport 48,190
AWD Sport XT 53,190
AWD Touring XT 56,990

The Touring XT in Australia includes premium interior upgrades, though the overall cabin design remains conservative. The Sport XT adopts the same 2.4-liter turbocharged engine as seen in the U.S. version, delivering 260 hp.

Engine performance and capacities

The Outback offers three engine configurations globally:

  1. 2.5L naturally aspirated Boxer - Produces around 182 hp (138 kW) and 245 Nm of torque
  2. 2.5L naturally aspirated engine in Europe - Rated at approximately 169 hp and 252 Nm of torque; 0-100 km/h in 10.2 seconds; top speed close to 193 km/h
  3. 2.4L turbocharged Boxer - Outputs 260 hp and 376 Nm of torque in XT models

All models are fitted with a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Turbocharged versions simulate gear shifts and include paddle shifters for a more responsive experience.

Off-road capability and practical features

Every Outback is equipped with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The inclusion of X-Mode enhances control on difficult surfaces.

Ground clearance varies by model:

  • Standard trims: approximately 8.7 inches (221 mm)
  • Wilderness trims: approximately 9.5 inches (241 mm)

Cargo space is also generous:

  • Touring XT in the U.S.: 33 cu ft (933 L) with seats up, expanding to 76 cu ft (2153 L) when folded
  • European models offer 561 L of boot capacity

Mid- and top-spec European models feature a power tailgate for added convenience.

Interior technology and comfort

An 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment screen is standard across all regions. While current U.S. models retain analog elements in the instrument cluster, the upcoming generation will feature a 12.3-inch fully digital display.

XT trims offer Nappa leather seats with both heating and cooling, wireless charging, premium audio systems, adaptive cruise control, a heated steering wheel, 360-degree camera, and dual-zone climate control.

Every trim benefits from Subaru's EyeSight safety suite - including Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Traffic Sign Recognition - further upgraded in 2025 with additional radar sensors and a new third camera.

Fuel efficiency and emissions

Fuel economy varies by engine type:

  • 2.5L engine in Europe: approximately 33 mpg (32.8 US mpg), with CO₂ emissions of 193 g/km
  • U.S. EPA figures are still pending but expected to be similar for the non-turbo engines

Turbocharged engines offer higher performance at the cost of reduced fuel efficiency, with no official combined figures currently available.

Final thoughts

The 2025 Subaru Outback Sport XT delivers a strong balance of performance, safety, and capability across key markets including the UK, USA, and Australia. Turbocharged XT variants offer 260 hp, enhanced ground clearance, permanent all-wheel drive, and upscale interior features.

Non-turbo versions provide strong value with lower entry costs and respectable fuel economy. The upgraded EyeSight system, refreshed infotainment options, and reliable off-road design confirm the Outback's relevance in the modern SUV market. Regional differences in specs and pricing remain, but the core appeal of the model is consistent worldwide.
