Table of contents:

How does the e:HEV system perform in daily driving?

The 2025 HR-V e:HEV X features Honda’s intelligent dual-motor hybrid powertrain, which combines a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors. This setup delivers around 96 kW (131 PS) and 253 Nm of torque and supports three drive modes: Electric, Hybrid, and Engine. The transition between modes is seamless and managed automatically by the system, offering both efficient city driving and capable highway performance.

During independent testing in Australia, the HR-V e:HEV X achieved fuel economy figures close to 4.3 L/100 km and a theoretical range of up to 930 km on a full 40-litre tank. In Europe, real-world consumption numbers remain competitive, hovering around 5.4 L/100 km with CO₂ emissions under 100 g/km. These results place the HR-V e:HEV among the most efficient compact crossovers in its segment globally.

The powertrain's quiet operation and smooth power delivery were praised across different testing environments, including suburban commuting in the UK and highway driving in the U.S.

"The engine never really feels like it’s working too hard, even on hills or highways." - Scott Collie

What changes are introduced in design and equipment?

The 2025 HR-V receives a mid-cycle update that includes a redesigned front fascia, new grille, LED light-bar tail lamps, and reshaped bumpers. These changes enhance its appearance, aligning it more closely with Honda's global design language. The updated look is consistent across markets, with only minor regional variations in bumper design and lighting details.

Inside, the cabin continues to offer Honda's signature "Magic Seats," which allow flexible rear seat folding for increased cargo space. Material quality and ergonomics remain strong points. Equipment levels vary depending on trim, but many features are widely available:

  • Standard features globally include: LED lighting, rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, and Honda SENSING suite.
  • Higher trims add features such as a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, 9-inch infotainment system, and premium audio.

UK and European models tend to include more features as standard, with trims like Elegance, Advance Style, and Advance Style Plus offering equipment such as a hands-free power tailgate, dual-zone climate control, and heated front seats. In Australia, the e:HEV X trim provides a similar mid-range package, while in the U.S., comparable features are offered in the EX-L non-hybrid variant.

How does the 2025 HR-V e:HEV X compare across markets?

The 2025 HR-V e:HEV X is offered in various forms across key global markets, with adjustments in trim levels, powertrains, and pricing. While the hybrid powertrain remains largely identical where available, the broader lineup differs significantly by region.

In the United Kingdom, the e:HEV lineup starts at £32,250 (Elegance) and goes up to £39,525 (Advance Style Plus), emphasizing premium features and low-emission performance. European versions also benefit from strong CO₂ standards compliance, with average emissions rated around 94-98 g/km.

In Australia, the HR-V range includes the Vi X petrol at AU$34,900, the e:HEV X hybrid at AU$39,900, and the high-spec e:HEV L at AU$42,900. This positions the hybrid as a mid-range option, balancing efficiency and value in a price-sensitive market. Performance and equipment closely mirror the UK Advance trim.

Meanwhile, the U.S. market continues to offer the HR-V only with a petrol engine for 2025, with no hybrid version announced as of August. Prices range from USD 25,400 (LX) to around USD 31,000 (EX-L AWD). The focus is more on value and mainstream appeal, with fewer premium or electrified options than other regions.

  • Australia offers the hybrid at a mid-market price point around AU$39,900.
